FACE OF FARMING

PHOTOGRAPHER, KATHLEEN BUCKALEW

Exhibition - Friday, March 1st. – April 30, 2024

Opening Reception; Friday, March 1st, 3pm – 8pm

As the Oxford community leans into spring and thinks of gardens, we, at The Oxford Arts Alliance, welcome our March Artist, Kathleen Buckalew and her Face of Farming.

Food. Farming. Farmers. The importance of these topics and the calling to create abundance, whether at scales large or small, can’t be overstated nor may it be ignored. That is why, traveling farm to farm, Kathleen befriended and photographed this essential yet, underappreciated population. In luminous tones, her black and white work captures some of the invisible army of people on which our lives depend. The exhibition, “Face of Farming” celebrates the warmth, joy and human-ness of the people and places that provide our daily sustenance and indelibly binds our well-being to these earthbound unsung stewards.

Kathleen Buckalew is a native of Wilmington, Delaware, and a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in Art and a Masters of Fine Arts in photography from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She has been affiliated with the Delaware Art Museum, National Gallery of Art and Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware. Kathleen’s portraits of Farmers have been viewed by thousands of people and were featured in “LENSCRATCH” a national exhibition of select photographers from all 50 states.
